Water is the most commonly used fluid for open and closed loop cooling system because of its efficiency in conducting and transferring of heat. Corrosion, scaling and microbial growth are the major problems encountered during chilled water and cooling tower operation. The presence of corrosion can shorten the life of the equipments and can cause blockage or clogging of the small valves while scaling reduces the heat transfer efficiency of the system. The microbial growth can cause potential health hazards to the employees. These problems when taken for granted or uncontrolled can lead to shutdowns, expenses for the company and health risk for employees .
