This process is an emerging advanced waste
water treatment technology that has been
successfully applied at an ever increasing
number of locations around the world. In
addition to their steady increase in number,
MBR installations are also increasing in terms
of scale.
MBR is defined as the combination of two
basic processes, biological degradation
and membrane separation, into a single
process, where the suspended solids and the
microorganism responsible for degradation
are separated by membrane filtration unit.
The entire biomass is confined within the system, providing perfect control of the residence time for the microorganism in the reactor (sludge age) and the disinfection of the effluent.
MBR is being adopted in many areas of the globe as the next generation of biological water treatment technology and has led to a revolutionary new concept in waste water treatment.
